Erika

Erika is about a young girl who is lost after the death of her parents in Dublin. She moves to London City in search of a new life. But life has something else stored for her. Her best friend Lara is always there with her and she gets married to a loving person. Life is complete but what stops her from living a fuller life than this? What is it exactly that is troubling her? Will ERIKA ever be able to find what is real and what is unreal?

The story starts with a murder scene and moves on with the regular life of Erika and her friends. The way the author has started with the story, brings chills to the body, as a reader is compelled to think why she murdered her own husband? What went wrong? The prologue builds the curiosity for anyone who picks up this wonderful book.

As the story progresses, one gets attached to the characters and the lovely lives of Erika, Lara and Ethan. ERIKA and Lara live together in a cozy apartment and it was so wonderful to see how their friendship progressed. From making coffee for each other in the mornings to, doing each other’s chores when one is not available. There is so much to learn from their relationship.

When Lara falls sick and ERIKA had to leave her alone, she cries for her and regrets leaving her alone in sickness. Lara finds out a date for her friend ERIKA and asks her to meet him and leave her previous boyfriend who is toxic and a junkie. Erika is confused but soon they both fall in love with each other and get married.

Spooky things started to happen after their marriage. The unusual behavior of Lara and the cryptic face of Ethan’s mother and her nightmares. She didn’t understand who was playing those games with her? On the other side of her brain, her past Dublin life affects her a lot. She was not able to forget the bad memories of her parent’s death.

However, it is also shown that the protagonist was in so much love with her husband that she even ignores the fights and other confusing events around her. We as readers feel that there is so much to learn from their relationship as well.

The story is set in modern-day London, and the author has beautifully depicted the whole city in her words. One can actually imagine being there where the character play is happening. The opening of each chapter is beautifully done by the introduction of quotes from the bible. These quotes create more thrill as we progress through the pages. The effort put by the author in terms of putting these pieces of bible quotes together and then adjusting to each and every chapter is commendable.

As we read further chapters, we find ourselves indulged in too many mysteries. From secret societies to the backyard silence, from mystery child Maya to her old Dublin cottage. And when the story was about to end, one couldn’t help but get goosebumps with incidents happening one after the other. The ending of the story shocked me. I never expected the end. It was mind-boggling and totally stayed with me for days. It was so amazing. The readers will have to read this book to enjoy the best parts of this book.

The author has done a great job in imagining things and scenarios that are beyond our understanding. Was Erika ever able to figure out the unusual events happening in her life? Where would she put her trust into? Lara, Ethan or herself? Definitely, this book should be on everyone’s reading list.
