Political Firestorm Over Sheesh Mahal 2.0: BJP Accuses Kejriwal Of Owning 7-Star Mansion In Punjab, AAP Denies Allegations
BJP’s Allegations Over The 7-Star Mansion In Punjab
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reignited political tensions by launching a fresh attack on former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The party accused Kejriwal of using Punjab government resources to build what it calls a “Sheesh Mahal 2.0,” a 7-star government mansion located in Chandigarh’s upscale Sector 2. According to BJP’s claims, the mansion spans two acres and was allotted under the Chief Minister’s quota. The party took to social media to criticize Kejriwal’s alleged hypocrisy, referring to him as “Sir Ji,” who pretends to be an ordinary man while living in royal comfort. BJP posted satellite images of the property and said Kejriwal, despite not holding any official position in Punjab, continues to enjoy opulent privileges. The BJP’s statement read, “After building a ₹52 crore Sheesh Mahal in Delhi, now Kejriwal is all set to lounge in a 7-star government mansion spanning 2 acres in Chandigarh. His taste for luxury seems limitless.”
AAP Refutes Allegations, Calls It Political Propaganda
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) quickly responded, dismissing BJP’s claims as “fake and politically motivated.” The party clarified that the said building in Chandigarh was not a mansion but the Chief Minister’s official camp office. AAP alleged that the BJP was attempting to divert attention from other national controversies by spreading misinformation. “Ever since the Prime Minister’s fake Yamuna story was exposed, the BJP seems to have lost its cool. Fake Yamuna, fake rainfall, and now fake 7-star claims,” AAP stated on X. The party further challenged the BJP to produce the alleged allotment letter if the claim was true. According to AAP, the Chandigarh administration, which is under BJP’s jurisdiction, would have had to approve any construction—making the allegations illogical. “By sharing a photo of the CM’s camp office, the frustrated BJP is making baseless claims,” the party emphasized.
Swati Maliwal’s Remarks Add Fuel To The Controversy
The controversy took a sharper turn when former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal made public statements alleging that Kejriwal had been allotted an even grander residence in Punjab. “In Chandigarh’s Sector 2, a luxurious 7-star government mansion under the CM quota has been allotted to Arvind Kejriwal,” Maliwal claimed on X. She further alleged that Kejriwal used a government helicopter to travel from his house to Ambala and then boarded a Punjab government jet to Gujarat for party-related work. According to Maliwal, the entire Punjab government machinery appeared to be serving one individual. Her comments have intensified the already heated political debate, with opposition parties seizing the opportunity to criticize AAP’s leadership and financial ethics.
The History Of ‘Sheesh Mahal’ Controversies
This isn’t the first time Arvind Kejriwal has been embroiled in a “Sheesh Mahal” controversy. In 2024, a similar row erupted over his official residence at 6 Flag Staff Road in Delhi. BJP leader Vijender Gupta filed a complaint alleging that Kejriwal had illegally merged multiple government plots and bungalows to construct a lavish mansion covering approximately eight acres. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) submitted a factual report following Gupta’s complaint, highlighting potential violations of building norms, including floor area ratio (FAR) and layout plan approval breaches. The report pointed to massive financial irregularities, with allegations that crores of taxpayers’ money were spent on luxury fittings and interiors. Gupta accused Kejriwal of misusing public funds for personal comfort and breaching public trust.

Political Reactions And Public Debate
The ‘Sheesh Mahal 2.0’ controversy has once again polarized political discourse. BJP leaders have labeled Kejriwal’s lifestyle as hypocritical, contrasting his self-proclaimed image of simplicity with the alleged opulent mansions. AAP, on the other hand, maintains that the BJP is fabricating stories to malign Kejriwal and divert public attention from more pressing national issues. Political analysts suggest that such controversies reflect the growing intensity of the rivalry between BJP and AAP, especially with elections looming in several states. As both parties continue trading accusations, the public remains divided—some demanding transparency from AAP, while others dismiss the claims as part of BJP’s larger political strategy.
In conclusion, the Sheesh Mahal 2.0 row over the alleged 7-star mansion in Punjab adds yet another chapter to the ongoing political tug-of-war between BJP and AAP. Whether it’s a legitimate inquiry or mere political theatrics remains to be seen, but the controversy underscores how luxury and leadership optics continue to shape India’s political narrative.
