Mini Brazil in Mann Ki Baat: PM lauds Football Kranti program and Bicharpur’s football revolution impacting young talents
New Delhi: During his monthly address, Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the transformation of a small town, Bicharpur in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district, from being notorious for illicit liquor and narcotics to being known as Mini Brazil for its flourishing football culture. The village’s inspiring journey began around twenty-five years ago when Raees Ahmed, a former footballer and coach, recognized the footballing talent of the local youth and started training them despite limited resources.

The football revolution in Bicharpur gained momentum with the Football Kranti program, leading to the formation of over 1,200 football clubs in Shahdol district and its surroundings. More than 40 national and state-level players have emerged from Bicharpur, showcasing the program’s success. The region, once plagued by social vices, now serves as a football nursery for the country, with many renowned former players and coaches imparting training to the young talents.
