Udhayanidhi Stalin, a DMK Leader and minister of Tamil Nadu, has been charged with an FIR filed against him for his remark on “Sanatan Dharma.”

The case has been reported to the Mira Road police in Mumbai under sections 153 A and 295 A of the IPC.

On Tuesday, a BJP delegation delivered a document to the Tamil Nadu police requesting the filing of an FIR against Udhayanidhi Stalin for his remarks disparaging “Sanatana Dharma.”

However, the whole controversy started after Udhayanidhi Stalin, the minister of Tamil Nadu’s youth welfare program, made a controversial statement about “Sanatana Dharma.” 

On September 2, while addressing the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association in  Chennai, Udhayanidhi compared the Sanatana Dharma to the coronavirus, malaria, dengue fever, and mosquitoes In his speech, the son of the chief minister of Tamil Nadu similarly referred to Sanatana Dharma as “Sanatanam.”

Another FIR was registered against the DMK leader last week in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly inciting religious sentiments; the FIR also mentioned Priyank Kharge, son of Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, for supporting Udhayanidhi’s comments.

Udhayanidhi stated that he stands by his remarks despite the fact his remarks caused a significant political uproar at the national level and that his words were misinterpreted as a call for genocide.

A Raja, a member of the DMK, supported Stalin Jr.’s remarks about Sanatan Dharma when he remarked, “Sanatana Dharma is a social disgrace like HIV and leprosy.” Escalating his criticism of Sanatan Dharma, He said, “There was no social stigma attached to malaria and dengue.”

Notably, a plea asking for an FIR to be launched against Stalin and A Raja for their alleged hate speech was submitted to the Supreme Court on September 7. For their inaction against the DMK Minister and MP, the concerned police officials were also subject to contempt procedures.
