Scientist Valarmathi from Isro, who gave her voice for countdowns for rocket launches like the Chandrayaan-3 mission, passed away on Sunday after suffering a Cardiac Arrest.
N Valarmathi, an ISRO scientist who was the voice behind the organization’s rocket countdown launches, including Chandrayaan-3, which ended up being her final launch, died on Saturday night in Chennai after suffering a sudden Cardiac arrest, according to a report by WION.
Former ISRO director Dr PV Venkitakrishnan expressed his condolences for her passing on X (formerly Twitter) and claimed that Chadrayaan-3 was her final countdown announcement.

“Valarmathi Madam’s voice won’t be heard during the countdowns of upcoming ISRO missions from Sriharikotta. Her final countdown announcement was Chandrayan 3. An unexpected death. Feels so sad. Pranams!” On X, Dr. Venkitakrishnan wrote.
N Valarmathit became a member of ISRO in 1984 and was important to many missions. She served as the project director for RISAT-1, the country’s second radar imaging satellite (RIS), and the first to be produced entirely in India.

She was the first recipient of the Abdul Kalam Award, which the Tamil Nadu government established in 2015 in memory of the late president APJ Abdul Kalam.
Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar also tweeted in a post on her passing “Saddened to hear about the passing of N Valarmathi ji, the voice behind many ISRO launch countdowns, including Chandrayaan 3,”. I offer my sympathies to her family and friends. Om Shanti.”
