Union Minister of Minority Affairs Smriti Irani replied to a number of questions in Lok Sabha stating that the population of Muslims in 2023 is estimated to be 19.7 crore. She turned to answering the questions posed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mala Roy.

Smriti Irani said that Muslims accounted for 14.2 percent of the whole population  as in keeping with Census 2011 and their projected population as of 2023 might be 19.7 crore. She said that in line with the Census 2011 file the Muslim population stood at 17.2 crore. The Minister also gave statistics on literacy rate, labour force participation and the right of people to necessary facilities like housing, lavatories and water.

However, queries about the population information associated with Pasmanda Muslims inside the country didn’t get any answer. The TMC leader asked 3 questions in which queries were regarding the countrywide population. She also asked if the government had any file of population records on Pasmanda Muslims and a question associated with the socio-monetary reputation of the community within the United states.

Bringing up the Periodic Labour force Survey (PLFS) 2021-2022 performed by means of the Ministry of records and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief stated that the literacy rate of Muslims aged seven years and above stood at 77.7 percentage and the labour force participation across every age in the community turned into 35.1 percent.
