Lucknow: Traffic Diversions on routes leading to Ekana stadium ahead of 5 World Cup matches

To simplify traffic during the ICC Cricket World Cup, Lucknow police started preparations to host hassle-free matches for city spectators at the Ekana stadium. There will be five world cup matches at Ekana, beginning on October 12 with a match between Australia and South Africa. Upendra Agarwal, JCP, law and order, stated that all 11 parking stands will be put outside the site, except for four stands inside.

To ensure a smooth traffic flow on the roadways leading to the Ekana cricket stadium, which is hosting the Australia-South Africa World Cup match on Thursday, the police have implemented traffic diversions.

“Vehicles coming from Kamta intersection towards Kanpur will not be able to proceed from the Ahimamau stretch and will go straight to Shaheed Path from noon until the end of the match.” Similarly, it would not be allowed for cars heading towards Cantt, Police Headquarters, or Gomti Nagar to make a U-turn at the Ahimamau intersection, according to Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Upendra Kumar Agarwal.

Vehicles arriving from the Sultanpur side will be rerouted from Amul Tiraha following needs. These vehicles will be detoured toward Shaheed Path from the vicinity of LuLu Mall rather than the Ahimamau intersection, according to a press release from the Lucknow Police Commissionerate.

Vehicles travelling from Sultanpur Road toward the Police Headquarters (PHQ) will not be able to use the Palassio subway from the HCL crossing to get there. Rather, these cars will exit the Ahimamau intersection to the right. At the HCL crossing, vehicles heading from Sultanpur to the stadium would have the option of turning right.

“The underpass near Maleshemau intersection, as well as the one near Pink Booth (Ekana stadium) and Palassio Mall, will be one way from noon until the end of the match. The JCP stated that these underpasses will only be used to travel toward Ekana and Shaheed Path. The press release states that vehicles cannot use the Ahimamau service road in the direction of PHQ and G-20 road. Rather, on all match days (midnight until the end of the match), the service lane from Ahimamau to the G-20 tri-junction will continue to be a one-way stretch.Drivers using G-20 Tiraha will need to turn towards the Gomti Nagar extension, make a U-turn, and enter through the pink booth to reach the stadium.

All cars will be able to cross the Palassio and Ahimamau underpasses after the match. There will be no parking on the road from Water Tank Tiraha to Palassio Mall. Cranes will tow cars parked here, according to the JCP (L&O).The areas in front of Ekana Stadium, Palassio Mall, the G-20 Tiraha service lane, and PHQ at the Ahimamau intersection are among the other no-parking zones.
