A series of rain-triggered landslides wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district, causing multiple houses to collapse like a stack of cards. The landslide in Himachal Pradesh is a distressing incident. The collapse was captured on camera and was seen unfolding in the market area of Anni, a town situated 76 km away from the Kullu district headquarters. Thankfully, initial reports indicate that no lives were lost as the buildings had been evacuated a few days prior to the incident. The shocking video footage shows approximately eight to nine sizable structures crumbling near a bus stand.

Himachal’s Rain and Landslides Chaos

Himachal Pradesh has been grappling with relentless rain, cloudbursts, and landslides over teh past few weeks. A fresh landslide struck Anni, resulting in the collapse of several buildings. The Kullu-Mandi Highway suffered damage, disconnecting the two areas, while numerous vehicles found themselves stranded. Shimla, another severely affected city recorded a rainfall of 190 mm in the past 24 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Himachal Pradesh for the next two days due to ongoing rainfall.

In Himachal Pradesh more than 100 buildings have collapsed in Shimla alone, further amplifying the disaster. The region has witnessed a total of 2,022 fully damaged houses and 9,615 partially damaged houses due to monsoon-related incidents. An ancient Shiv Temple in Shimla’s renowned Summer Hill area also succumbed to the calamitous monsoon. Despite the grim circumstances, officials managed to evacuate buildings in the affected area beforehand, averting potential casualties.
