Jagdeep Dhankhar Stresses decorum & discipline amidst opposition’s criticism over Sanjay Singh’s suspension; Zero tolerance for lack of discipline
Amid criticism from opposition leaders regarding the suspension of AAP MP Sanjay Singh, Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar delivered a speech stressing the significance of decorum and discipline. Addressing Indian Forest Service probationers, he emphasized that a country cannot prosper without discipline and decorum. Dhankhar asserted that compromising on these principles severely impacts institutions.

Decorum & Discipline:
As Rajya Sabha chairman, he is committed to maintaining decorum in the temple of democracy. He acknowledged that at times, unpalatable situations may arise, but decorum and discipline are crucial for growth and prosperity. Dhankhar urged zero tolerance for any lack of decorum and discipline, emphasizing the importance of these values in serving society well.
Dhankhar Suspends Sanjay Singh:
Earlier, Dhankhar named Sanjay Singh for breaching decorum during an opposition protest, leading to his suspension from the House for the session. AAP expressed regret, and other parties called for the suspension’s revocation, boycotting a meeting called by the chairman. The opposition continued their protest near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue, demanding a statement from PM Modi on the Manipur issue, vowing to continue the protest into the next day. Leaders of the INDIA alliance planned to take turns sitting near the Gandhi statue throughout the night.
