PM Modi and President Macron exchanged gifts when Modi was in France, marking the deep respect for each other’s culture. PM Modi was the Guest of Honour at France’s Bastille Day parade and was also awarded the Legion of Honour, France’s highest civilian and military honour. PM Modi is the first Indian PM to get this prestigious award from France. India and France have shared great relations since 1998 and they continue to strengthen this bilateral relationship.

What Special Gifts Have Been Exchanged Between PM Modi and President Macron?

  • PM Modi gave President Macron a unique miniature version of Sitar made of sandalwood. The gift represents the unique craftsmanship of India and its culture.

  • First Lady Brigitte Macron was gifted a Pochampally silk ikat saree that is a celebration of the indigenous handloom of India. The saree was given in a beautifully crafted sandalwood box. 

  • French President Emmanuel Macron gifted Modi a framed facsimile of a 1916 photograph of a Parisian presenting flowers to a Sikh officer. 
  • He also gave him some of the most important works of French literature- a series of novels, A la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time) by Marcel Proust.
