DK Shivakumar’s cryptic post has intensified speculation over leadership change in Karnataka Congress as loyalist MLAs rush to Delhi amid internal tussle.

DK Shivakumar Cryptic Post Intensifies Karnataka Congress Leadership Tussle as Power Battle Heats Up in Bengaluru

Political temperatures in Karnataka have risen sharply once again after Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar posted a cryptic message on X, igniting renewed debates over a possible leadership shift in the ruling Congress government. The post appeared at a time when several ministers and MLAs loyal to Shivakumar travelled to New Delhi, giving momentum to speculation about the long-discussed rotational chief ministership formula. The Karnataka Congress, already dealing with internal tensions since the victory of 2023, is now at the center of heightened curiosity and political conversations across the state.

DK Shivakumar’s Cryptic Message Triggers Speculation

The Deputy Chief Minister’s post, translated loosely as, “Where there is effort, there is fruit; where there is devotion, there is the Lord,” has been widely interpreted as a subtle message aimed at the party high command. Alongside the text, Shivakumar shared a poster featuring excerpts from a recent speech delivered at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office during the birth anniversary celebrations of Indira Gandhi, where he encouraged party workers to remain loyal and confident amid internal challenges.
The timing of the post—just a day after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah completed 2.5 years in office—has intensified conversations around whether the alleged rotational CM agreement has resurfaced.

Leadership Debate Gains Momentum

High-Level Meetings and Camps in Delhi

Even as top Congress leadership has firmly maintained that no leadership change is being considered, activities within the party suggest otherwise. A group of MLAs loyal to Shivakumar, including Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy and MLAs Iqbal Hussain, HC Balakrishna, and SR Srinivas, travelled to Delhi for meetings with senior party leaders. Sources indicate that up to 12 more MLAs may arrive in the capital shortly.
Earlier, nearly a dozen MLCs also camped in Delhi, signaling a coordinated show of strength.

Siddaramaiah Camp Pushes Back

Simultaneously, Siddaramaiah’s supporters held a strategy dinner meeting at the residence of Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi. Senior leaders including Dr G Parameshwara, Dr HC Mahadevappa, Dinesh Gundurao, and KN Rajanna reportedly discussed leveraging the Ahinda vote base to consolidate the CM’s position and resist any transition demands.

BJP Attacks Congress Over Internal Fight

Opposition Seizes the Opportunity

The BJP wasted no time in reacting. Spokesperson Shehzad Ponawalla released a sharp video statement describing the situation as “Congress versus Congress” and accusing the ruling party of prioritizing power over public welfare. He said,
“INC means ‘I need chair’, not Indian National Congress.”
He further criticized the government for ignoring key issues such as potholes, traffic, law and order, and civic infrastructure while being consumed by internal rivalry.

What Lies Ahead for Karnataka Congress?

As cabinet reshuffle discussions approach, top Congress leadership is monitoring factional assertiveness. Leaders have been instructed to focus on core governance priorities such as the SIR (State Investment Region) issue. However, despite official statements downplaying conflict, the coordinated Delhi mobilisation by Shivakumar’s supporters indicates that the internal pressure is far from resolved.
The rivalry between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar has loomed since May 2023 when Congress secured a sweeping victory. Although Shivakumar accepted the Deputy CM position, several legislators continue to push for his elevation to Chief Minister. With Siddaramaiah crossing the symbolic halfway mark of his term, the debate is expected to intensify in coming weeks.

Conclusion

The cryptic post by DK Shivakumar has yet again stirred Karnataka’s political landscape. While Congress insists that leadership change discussions are off the table, the movement of party members and growing assertiveness of both factions suggest that the power struggle is very much alive. As the situation develops, Karnataka awaits clarity—whether the government focuses on governance or remains embroiled in internal contests will determine the political course ahead.
