Kejriwal’s Madhya Pradesh Visit Amid ED Summons

Arvind Kejriwal faces ED summons over excise policy, but proceeds with election roadshow in Madhya Pradesh, labelling it 'illegal and politically motivated.' Tensions rise in the political arena."

Chief Minister of Delhi Plans Election Roadshow Despite ED’s Money Laundering Probe Notice

On Thursday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was scheduled to visit Madhya Pradesh and hold a roadshow in the state that’s gearing up for elections. However, this day also marked an important development as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had summoned him in connection with a money laundering probe related to a now-defunct excise policy.

Arvind Kejriwal’s office conveyed the plans for a roadshow with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. They mentioned that Kejriwal would soon depart for MP. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has nominated Rani Agrawal as its candidate for Singrauli in the upcoming elections.

Kejriwal’s office firmly labelled the ED’s notice as “illegal and politically motivated.” They claimed that the notice was issued on the instructions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to disrupt his campaign in the five states’ assembly elections.

The uncertainty of Kejriwal’s appearance before the ED lingered, even though security measures had been put in place. The AAP maintained that their leaders were being targeted, while the BJP denied any witch-hunt and pointed to the flawed excise policy as the root cause of the trouble.

ED Concerns, Bail Denial, Political Clash

Delhi minister Atishi suggested that Kejriwal might face arrest, and the ED had attributed the policy to him in one of its chargesheets. Recently, the Supreme Court denied bail to Kejriwal’s former deputy, Manish Sisodia, in connection with financial irregularities associated with the policy. The BJP called for Kejriwal’s resignation, while AAP argued that their leaders were being unfairly targeted.

Several AAP leaders, including Sanjay Singh, Satyendar Jain, and Manish Sisodia, have faced legal actions in connection with the case. The Central Bureau of Investigation has also been probing alleged irregularities in the policy’s implementation. BJP leader Harish Khurana insisted that Kejriwal should answer questions related to the scandal, emphasizing that the ED was merely doing its job. He refuted Kejriwal’s attempt to portray himself as a victim and escape questioning.
