The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a pre-election advisory ahead of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election scheduled for this Saturday. In their advisory, they have outlined traffic restrictions aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the election. Additionally, the DUSU Election Result 2023 recorded a 42% voter turnout, marking the return to electoral proceedings after cancellations in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and academic disruptions in 2022.

 

1. Commercial vehicles are prohibited from entering the Delhi University area.

2. Chhatra Marg will be inaccessible to all motor vehicles.

On the 23rd of September 2023, the vote counting for the DUSU election will occur in North Campus, Delhi University. To ease congestion and ensure convenience for commuters, it is recommended to avoid the following routes as per the advisory.

DUSU Elections Snapshot

In the recent DUSU (Delhi University Students Union) election held on Friday, twenty-four candidates were vying for positions. These elections marked a return to the electoral process after the previous ones in 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and academic disruptions in 2022. Chander Shekhar, the chief election officer, reported a voter turnout of 42 per cent, which was a slight improvement from the 2019 turnout of 39.90 per cent. However, it did not reach the peak seen in 2018, when turnouts reached 44.46 per cent and 42.8 per cent in 2018 and 2017, respectively. The central panel elections in 52 colleges and departments utilize electronic voting, while college union polls rely on paper ballots.

Tazia procession traffic alert today

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory concerning the Tazia procession set to commence from Pahari Bhajia on Saturday. Via X (formerly Twitter), they have outlined the procession route and necessary traffic diversions. The advisory alerts commuters to expect disruptions and potential bus service halts along the procession’s path, leading to possible delays and traffic congestion in the vicinity.

Furthermore, passengers planning to reach New Delhi Railway Station on September 23, 2023, especially in the afternoon, are advised to depart early and allocate extra time for potential travel delays. To reach the station, it is recommended to avoid Connaught Place and instead opt for the Ajmeri Gate side via Tilak Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, or, depending on the procession’s progress, Rajghat and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg.

Various traffic diversions have been implemented in areas including Brish Mohan Chowk, Hauz Qazi Chowk, Jhandewalan, Teen Murti, Gol Meti, Motilal Nehru Marg, Q-Point, AIIMS loop, Jama Masjid Road/Chawri Bazar road crossing, Ajmer Gate Chowk, RML, GPO, Mandi House, Hexagon, Windsor Place, and Dayal Singh Chowk.
