The IMD reports that most parts of Delhi saw temperatures higher than those of neighboring Rajasthan, a state famous for its 50 degree temperatures and the Thar Desert. With maximum temperatures between 44 and 47 degrees, Delhi was hotter than Bikaner (44.6 degrees), Barmer (45.8 degrees), Jodhpur (45.6 degrees), Kota (46.2 degrees), and Sriganganagar (46.7 degrees).

Delhi is experiencing a severe heat wave on Sunday as the temperature touched a season 44. 4 degrees Celsius. Najafgarh is the area which witnessed the highest temperature in both the National Capital & the country – 47. 8 degrees Celsius. With hot winds blowing from Rajasthan continuing to lash the national capital there is no relief from the Delhi heatwave for at least another week.
A maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, and a minimum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, were recorded by Delhi’s main weather station, the Safdarjung observatory, according to ANI.

Most places in Delhi recorded maximum temperatures between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius as against the normal four to six degrees over the normal. Najafgarh recorded the maximum temperature at 47. degrees Celsius; the highest both in the capital and the country 8.
IMD had also displayed a red alert which denoted that heat wave conditions are likely over numerous parts of Delhi. They also predict a partly cloudy sky with surface winds blowing at 25 to 35 kmph.
Weather officials advised people to be careful and responsible for “[taking] special care of particularly sensitive groups of population: children, elderly people and people with chronic diseases”.
The department said people of all ages have a very high possibility of contracting heat illness and heat stroke along with some health issue associated with vulnerable individuals including infants elderly and people with chronic health conditions.
