CWC meeting in Telangana: Breaks Tradition and And Discusses Future Strategies

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) breaks tradition by meeting in Hyderabad to formulate plans for the 2024 elections, with a focus on the INDIA coalition, and to devise strategies for overthrowing the BRS government in Telangana. Important figures get together for debates and grassroots activism.

CWC meeting in Telangana to map out electoral strategies

For the first time in years, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has decided to hold its meeting somewhere other than Delhi. This strategic meeting, which is scheduled for September 16 in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, intends to demonstrate the party’s commitment to unseating the existing BRS administration in the state as well as to map out election strategies.

Ahead of the meeting Congress leader Sonia Gandhi said, “CWC stands ready to write new chapter of development with dignity for Telangana, nation”.

The 84-member CWC meeting, which will be presided over by party president Mallikarjun Kharge with the support of general secretaries K C Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh, will get underway in the late afternoon. All CWC members, including Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, are expected to attend the meeting, which will also discuss the general election strategy for 2024 in light of the formation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to compete against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) jointly.

The important gathering, which will take place in a luxury hotel, will assess upcoming state Assembly elections and the campaigns for them. These states are namely Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Mizoram.

September 17, which is the anniversary of the former Hyderabad State’s admission to the Indian Union, falls on the same day as the gathering.

Following the public meeting, the Congress President will lead a cavalcade of CWC members, PCC presidents, and CLP leaders as they travel to each of Telangana’s 119 Assembly districts for a night’s stay and to take part in party events on September 18 in the assigned Assembly districts. The leaders will take part in the door-to-door distribution of a charge sheet against the BRS administration and five guarantees. They will take part in the Bharat Jodo March in the evening after attending a community lunch with influential people.

Out of the 90 invitees, 84 confirmed their presence, including four active chief ministers, according to Venugopal, reported by PTI.

Leaders of the Congress have expressed confidence that the public gathering will change the political landscape of Telangana as well as the party. They think that the conversations could significantly alter the course of next electoral contests.

While talking to media, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “This is the first CWC meeting since I took charge as the party president. Tomorrow will also feature a lengthy working committee meeting where the party will be discussed. Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and all other senior leaders of the Congress would be present at the meeting to discuss and make plans for the upcoming elections in 5 states. The next meeting with our alliance partners will be used to discuss the partnership (INDIA).”

A total of 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees are currently a part of the committee. 15 women and recent recruits like Shashi Tharoor and Sachin Pilot are also included. In order to present a “charge sheet” against the current KCR administration, this diverse group will likely enlist the assistance of party members from every assembly district.
