Army Chief General Dwivedi highlighted eroded trust at the LAC and called the situation sensitive
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi spoke about the situation at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the border between India and China. He said it is sensitive and not normal. While the situation is stable, India wants to return to how things were before April 2020, when China tried to enter Indian territory.

General Dwivedi mentioned that trust between Indian and Chinese forces has been greatly damaged. He also pointed out that China’s actions have hurt diplomatic relations. Last week, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar described India’s ties with China as very significantly disturbed.
The General noted the difficulty of dealing with China, saying that India must compete, cooperate, coexist, confront, and contest. He emphasized the need to restore the situation before April 2020 regarding territory, buffer zones, and patrols. The situation will remain sensitive, and we are fully ready to handle any problems, he added.
India and China have held two rounds of talks in July and August to address issues along the LAC in eastern Ladakh. General Dwivedi said that while there are some positive signs from diplomatic talks, it is important to remember that diplomacy only offers options.
He also discussed China building villages along the LAC, calling it artificial immigration. He said that China can do what it wants, but India is working with the army, state governments, and the central government to improve border areas and develop better model villages.
