Ambala Man Arrested for Leaking Air Force Secrets to ISI After Honeytrap

Ambala man arrested after allegedly sharing Army and Air Force secrets with Pakistan’s ISI following a honeytrap via social media.

Ambala Man Arrested for Sharing Army and Air Force Secrets With Pakistan’s ISI After Social Media Honeytrap

In a serious national security breach, an Ambala man has been arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive information related to the Indian Army and the Air Force with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. The arrest has raised concerns about the growing use of social media honeytraps to extract classified information from individuals with access to sensitive installations.

Arrest Near Ambala Cantonment

Police in Ambala arrested the accused, identified as Sunil, a 31-year-old resident of Sabga village under the Saha police station area. He was taken into custody near the Ambala Cantonment bus stand following intelligence inputs and surveillance.

According to officials, Sunil was employed by a private contractor and worked as a supervisor on construction projects across various military units. His role provided him regular access to an Air Force Station, making the case particularly sensitive from a security standpoint.

Honeytrap Through Social Media

Investigators revealed that Sunil was allegedly honeytrapped through a fake female profile on Facebook. Over time, the handlers reportedly built emotional trust and gradually manipulated him into sharing sensitive details.

Police said the contact with Pakistani handlers continued for six to seven months, during which Sunil was allegedly induced with emotional engagement, promises of favors, and possible financial incentives. Officials also suspect elements of psychological pressure and blackmail as part of the honeytrap operation.

Sensitive Information Allegedly Shared

Using his access to restricted areas, Sunil allegedly shared confidential details related to military unit locations, troop movement, and deployment patterns. Such information is considered highly sensitive, as it can compromise operational readiness and national defense.

Security agencies are now assessing the extent of information compromised, including whether any strategic or real-time operational data was passed on.

Digital Evidence Recovered

A special unit of the Ambala Police recovered WhatsApp chats and voice call records that allegedly link Sunil directly to Pakistani handlers. These digital records are being treated as crucial evidence in the case.

Additionally, investigators are scrutinizing Sunil’s bank account and financial transactions to determine whether he received money in exchange for the information. Any suspicious transfers could further strengthen charges related to espionage and financial misconduct.

Police Remand and Ongoing Probe

Ambala Crime DSP Virender Kumar confirmed that the accused has been taken on a four-day police remand for further interrogation. Authorities are probing whether Sunil acted alone or was part of a wider network.

Police officials stated that more disclosures are expected during questioning, particularly regarding how the handlers operated, what methods were used to extract information, and whether others with access to sensitive locations may have been targeted.

Role of ISI in the Honeytrap

According to preliminary findings, Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI allegedly orchestrated the honeytrap by first establishing trust through a fake online identity. Once the relationship was established, handlers reportedly began requesting sensitive military information in exchange for favors and money.

Security agencies have repeatedly warned about such tactics, noting that honeytraps via social media have become a common tool used by foreign intelligence agencies to target individuals with access to defense installations.

Growing Concerns Over Digital Espionage

The case has once again highlighted the dangers of digital espionage and the vulnerability of individuals working in sensitive environments. Authorities have emphasized the need for stronger awareness, monitoring, and cybersecurity training for personnel connected to defense infrastructure.

Officials also stressed that even non-military staff, such as contractors and supervisors, can become targets due to their access to restricted areas.

National Security Implications

The arrest of the Ambala man has sparked renewed discussions about tightening background checks, improving digital surveillance, and strengthening internal security protocols. Intelligence agencies are coordinating to ensure that any damage caused by the leak is contained and mitigated.

As the investigation continues, authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in compromising national security.
