A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, Chetan Kumar Choudhary, shot dead his escort duty in-charge, assistant sub-inspector Tika Ram Meena, and three other passengers on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train near Palghar railway station in Maharashtra at around 5 am on Monday. The accused, Chetan Kumar, will face charges under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and will be produced before the Borivali court.

In a tragic incident aboard the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express (train 12956), a police constable opened fire at his colleague, ASI Tika Ram, at around 5:23 am, inside the B5 coach. Following this, the constable proceeded to another coach and shot dead three passengers. The constable was later apprehended at Mira Road with the help of Government Railway Police and RPF officials. The Western Railway’s chief PRO, Sumit Thakur, expressed regret over the incident and confirmed that ASI Tika Ram and three civilians lost their lives. The constable, known to have mental health issues, was arrested by the RPF/Bhayandar.

Constable’s Tragic Shooting Spree:

DRM Neeraj Kumar reported that around 6 am, the RPF constable on escort duty opened fire, resulting in four fatalities. The bodies were removed from the train at Borivali railway station. Constable, described as short-tempered, recently returned from leave. He shot his superior and others in front of him.

In the wake of the tragedy, an ex gratia of ₹25 lakh has been announced for the kin of deceased ASI Meena, with ₹15 lakh coming from the Railway Suraksha Kalyan Nidhi (fund) and funeral expenses of ₹20,000. The accused constable remains in custody with the Mira Road railway police.
