Delhi Gang Rape Near Kalkaji Temple: Asif Arrested After Police Impersonation
A case of alleged Delhi gang rape involving a 17-year-old girl has been reported from a park near Kalkaji Temple, with police investigating allegations that three men posed as police officers before assaulting the teenager. One accused, identified as Asif, has been arrested following an encounter with police, while efforts are continuing to trace the other two suspects. The case has been registered under relevant provisions, including the POCSO Act, as the victim is a minor.
Incident Near Kalkaji Temple
According to police reports, the incident took place on Monday evening, September 21, 2026. The 17-year-old girl had reportedly visited Kalkaji Temple with her 17-year-old male friend at around 7 pm. After offering prayers, the two went to a nearby park, identified in reports as Astha Kunj Park, around 7:30 pm. The park is situated between the Kalkaji Temple and ISKCON Temple areas.
While the teenagers were in the park, three men, reportedly aged between 25 and 30, allegedly approached them. The men reportedly claimed to be police officers and questioned the teenagers. Police said the accused allegedly used threats and intimidation before the girl was sexually assaulted. Reports also state that one of the men restrained the girl’s male friend during the alleged crime.
Police Impersonation Allegation
The allegation of police impersonation has emerged as an important part of the investigation. According to the complaint and police account reported by multiple media outlets, the suspects allegedly presented themselves as law-enforcement personnel and threatened the teenagers with legal consequences.
The use of a false police identity is being examined as investigators reconstruct the sequence of events. Police are also attempting to establish the identities and individual roles of all three suspects through witness accounts, CCTV material and other evidence collected during the investigation.
PCR Call and Police Investigation
A PCR call concerning the alleged incident was received at approximately 8:45 pm. Police teams subsequently reached the location and the minor victim was taken for medical examination. Investigators registered a case under relevant legal provisions, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, commonly known as the POCSO Act.
The investigation has involved police teams examining the area, speaking with people who may have been nearby and collecting evidence. Authorities are working to establish the complete timeline and identify the remaining suspects.
CCTV Footage Being Examined
CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas is being scanned as part of the investigation. Police are examining available camera recordings to track the movements of the suspects before and after the alleged incident and to help verify the sequence of events.
Investigators are also collecting statements from people who may have been present around the park. CCTV analysis and witness information can assist investigators in establishing movements and corroborating other evidence gathered during the case.
Asif Arrest After Police Encounter
During the investigation, police received information about one suspect, identified as Asif, near DM Office Road in Amar Colony. According to the police account reported by multiple news organisations, officers attempted to intercept him, following which he allegedly opened fire.
Police said Asif fired three rounds and that one round struck the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh. Officers then fired in response, with one bullet hitting Asif in the right leg. He was subsequently taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
The Asif arrest is the first reported arrest in the case. Police teams are continuing efforts to locate the other two accused allegedly involved in the incident.
Investigation Under POCSO Act Continues
Since the survivor is a minor, the investigation includes provisions of the POCSO Act, which provides a legal framework for cases involving sexual offences against children. Police are also examining other applicable provisions based on the allegations and evidence collected during the investigation.
The case remains under investigation. Authorities are expected to rely on the survivor’s statement, medical findings, CCTV footage, forensic material, witness accounts and other evidence while proceeding against the accused. The allegations against the suspects will be subject to the legal process.

What the Investigation Will Establish
The Kalkaji Temple case has brought attention to the alleged misuse of a police identity to intimidate people in a public space. However, the complete circumstances and individual roles of the accused will be established through the ongoing investigation and court proceedings.
With one suspect, Asif, arrested and the remaining suspects being sought, Delhi Police are continuing efforts to collect evidence and complete the investigation.
