Sandeep Reddy Vanga Slams PR Tactics After Deepika Quits Spirit

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has criticized what he calls “dirty PR games” after reports of Deepika Padukone leaving the cast of Spirit, Prabhas’ new film. Many still took Vanga’s social media post to be an obvious criticism of Padukone and her rumored reason for parting ways with the film.

Controversy stirred when it was shared that Deepika Padukone was no longer cast in Spirit. Many news sources reported that she felt uncomfortable with several “A-rated” or explicit scenes, required an eight-hour day, hesitated to speak Telugu and was offered a generous payment package that shared her profits.

Vanga wrote on X (the former Twitter) about feeling let down and betrayed. He added, “When I present a story to an actor, I completely trust their choices.” Our business is based on the understanding you can’t share what we discuss. It’s fair to say that, through this, You’ve ‘REVEALED’ who You are. Is that what it takes to replace my story? Young characters being written off? Are these your feminist beliefs? He continued, “I have spent years perfecting what I do, so filmmaking is everything to me.” You didn’t hear me. You’re not going to get it. You’ll never find it. Aisa karo. I don’t see any difference, so keep saying your part of the story #dirtyPRgames.”

Shortly after the official announcement that Triptii Dimri would be leading Spirit, Vanga made his highly critical statement. Padukone allegedly wanted more for the role than Dimri ended up charging as reported.

The director also appeared to reference Dimri as the “young actor” who was being “beaten down,” implying that the PR narrative for Padukone’s exit was intentionally disparaging Dimri and the other new “casting.”

The timing of Vanga’s comments mixed with all of the recent reports about Spirit’s advanced content have many believing that the director is frustrated, believing the film and creative vision have been intentionally slandered. The outrage from this is certainly sparking a social media debate, with some supporting Vanga’s stance on creative, and professional integrity, while others defended Padukone’s ability, as a new mother, to set boundaries and negotiate terms.

Currently, Deepika Padukone has not made any public statements in response to Vanga’s claims. This developing drama has placed Spirit directly in the spotlight, prior to shooting which is slated for October 2025. The public drama surrounding a noted director and a sparkling actress exposes the tumultuous relationship in film, especially when doing creative battling (being told what to make) and the negotiations of a contract.
