Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Makes a Spiritual Statement with Bhagavad Gita-Inspired Cape at Cannes 2025

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Stuns at Cannes 2025 in Gaurav Gupta Gown Featuring a Powerful Bhagavad Gita Shloka on a Handwoven Brocade Cape

As an ambassador of L’Oreal Paris and one of India’s most recognized international stars, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was again a sight to behold during the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2025. Indeed, this year’s second red-carpet appearance showcased not just an exquisite fashion moment but also a potent spiritual statement.

Aishwarya combined elegance from Indian tradition into a futuristic couture by wearing the magnificent custom-made creation by celebrated designer Gaurav Gupta titled Heiress of Clam. The heavenly black off-shoulder velvet gown was a vision, intricately hand-embroidered with bursts of silver, gold, charcoal, and black to resemble the celestial universe. It shone like a night sky scattered with stars, shimmering as the light caught it in each of her steps.

However, the crowning glory of her whole look was the royal brocade cape that enveloped the entire gown.

Styled by Allia Al Rufai, the cape draped, trailing gracefully on both sides, and at the back it held the most striking inscription: a shloka from the Bhagavad Gita, woven in hand in Sanskrit. The verse means, “You have a right to perform your actions, but not to the fruits of those actions. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.” The spiritual message thus serves as a reminder with respect to purpose, detachment, and dignity-these values are deeply rooted within Indian philosophy.

This beautiful cape was woven in Varanasi, showcasing the weaving culture of India. Hence, Aishwarya’s look was not just about fashion participation. It is a celebration of heritage and inner strength. Cannes 2025 was more about mindful fashion: where style meets soul.

Accompanying her designer outfit was a vintage Hollywood glam make up look. Bold, dramatic eyes made for a perfect fit with Aishwarya’s radiant, dewy finish make up and trademark red lips. Her loose, wavy hairstyle further reflected finesse and glamour, rounding up her red carpet presence.

This year marks 28 years of L’Oréal in Cannes, and like every year, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan carried forward the theme “Lights, Beauty, Action”, which is the theme for the year. It celebrates cinematic brilliance, self-expression, and empowerment.
