Pulwama Encounter: Three Terrorists Killed In Encounter by Security Forces in J&K

A major counterterrorism operation took place in the Nader Tral area of Awantipora in Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in which three terrorists were neutralized. The Indian Army and CRPF, along with Jammu and Kashmir Police, acted on credible intelligence input about the presence of militants in the village.

Security forces launched the cordon and search operation in Nader Tral, an area well known for militancy. As the joint team was nearing a suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire and the security forces immediately retaliated with full force. The gunbattle was intense and long, which is characteristic of such encounters in this region wherein the militants are mostly heavily armed and willing to stand their ground.

After a sustained exchange of fire, three terrorists were fed to death at the hands of security forces. While the identities of the slain militants are yet to be officially disclosed, early reports indicate that they were members of a banned terrorist outfit active in Kashmir Valley. This successful operation would deal a big blow to the terror apparatus operating in that area.

This operation in Pulwama followed closely behind yet another successful counterterrorism operation two days ago in adjacent Shopian. In this operation, security forces eradicated three members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), including a key commander Shahid Kuttay. These successive successes are a testament to the proactive and systematic work of the security forces to tackle terrorism in the region.

The ongoing operation in Pulwama is still undergoing the post-encounter phase. Security forces are conducting thorough searches of every corner of the area to determine whether any other militants are still active in the area and to ascertain any recoverable arms, ammunition, and incriminating material targeting the public. The local administration is maintaining a strict perimeter around Nader Tral in the event of any volatility in order to avoid an eruption towards the termination of the operation.

The local administration has praised the bravery and professionalism of the security forces involved in the encounter and reiterated its resolve and commitment in maintaining peace and security in the region, re-assuring citizens that these are genuine operations based on credible intelligence where they intend to devote specific attention towards and target the terrorist elements.

Projected counter-terror operations post-terror attack in Pahalgam are indicative of the heightened security response, as security forces explore ways of disabling terrorist networks and suppressing repeat action.
