The demise impacted the nation in multiple ways and social media was filled with condolences for the family and his rumoured girlfriend Shehnaaz Gill. And while this remained to be the highlight of the week, there were several women who made it to the headlines. Lucknow Constable attacked after lewd remarks by a youth

A female constable from Lucknow’s Aliganj neighbourhood was allegedly assaulted by a guy after she confronted him for making obscene remarks about her. The young man reportedly attacked the female officer with a rod, leaving her with a significant head injury. After the incident, a video of the injured policeman being rescued by onlookers went viral on social media.

This year’s Kerala’s Haj Committee doesn’t have any women

Once again, the Kerala Haj Committee doesn’t have any women. After four years (since 2018) of women being appointed to the Kerala Haj Committee, it is now an all-male committee, despite the fact that women make up more than half of the state’s Haj pilgrims. Following a government directive, the 16 male members were appointed on August 11.

3 Women Taking Oath For The Supreme Court In Delhi

31st August was a momentous day for India as three women justices Hima Kohli, BV Nagarathna, and Bela M Trivedi took their oaths as members of the Supreme Court in Delhi. Gender inequality has been an issue in the Indian Judicial System for the longest. It is a moment of great achievement for the country to have three female Supreme Court Judges.

Himani Bundela Becomes First Crorepati Of KBC Season 13

On Tuesday, Amitabh Bachchan’s reality programme Kaun Banega Crorepati 13 welcomed its first crorepati, Himani Bundela. Bundela is from the Uttar Pradesh city of Agra. She is blind and works as a mental mathematics instructor in Agra. She is the first visually impaired too to become a crorepati.

FIR Against Payal Rohatgi

The Shivaji Nagar police station in Pune has filed a FIR against actress Payal Rohatgi for a video that contains “objectionable” language directed at Mahatma Gandhi and members of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Rohatgi had expressed her displeasure with the video on social media, prompting Pune City Congress committee office bearers to file a police case against him.

Texas Bans Abortion after 6 weeks

After the Supreme Court of the United States and other legal bodies failed to intervene, the state of Texas has outlawed abortions. The law now prohibits abortion after six weeks which is not even when women actually realise that they are pregnant. This is certainly condemning abortion without criminalising it.

Canadian City Burnaby to Observe September 5 As Gauri Lankesh Day

The Canadian city of Burnaby has designated September 5 to be ‘Gauri Lankesh Day.’ 5th September is the death anniversary of the Journalist Gauri Lankesh. It will be a memorial to the journalist and activist on the anniversary of her death. In 2017, Gauri Lankesh was shot outside her Bengaluru home.
