Another Fridge Door Opened To Death: Nikki Yadav Case Reminds of Shraddha

A 22-year-old girl was killed by her boyfriend, Sahil Gehlot. He even dared to marry another woman the same day. Here are the insights of the shocking Nikki Yadav case.

A horrific incident shook the nation. When you were celebrating Valentine’s Day, Nikki Yadav, a resident of Delhi, was soaked in blood.

What do we know?

Sahil Gehlot, a resident of Delhi’s Mitraon village, brutally murdered his live-in partner and married another woman the same day. Delhi police arrested Sahil after they found the woman’s body in his fridge. The deceased, identified as Nikki Yadav, a resident of Jhajjar, Haryana, was strangled to death. The 24-year-old Gehlot used a data cable from his car to strangle her.

The two had been dating since 2018 and were living together in Dwarka. A local noticed she was missing and immediately informed the police. Nikki’s family lives in Haryana, and they had no clue about her whereabouts. According to the police, Sahil said his family fixed his wedding for February 9-10th.

Sahil did not inform his family members about his relationship. He allegedly also kept his wedding plans secret from Nikki. When 22-year-old Nikki learned about it, an argument ensued. The two reached Kashmiri Gate, where he strangled her to death.

Gehlot, a recent pharma graduate, confessed that he panicked and drove to his dhaba in Mitraon village in West Delhi, where he stuffed her body in a refrigerator. He then went home and prepared for his wedding.

How did it all start?

In February 2018, both took admission in Greater Noida’s Galgotia College in different streams.

The special commissioner of police, and crime, Ravindra Singh Yadav, shared details about the two. He said, “Both the accused and the deceased used to travel to their respective coaching institutes daily in the same bus, and they became friends and later fell in love. They started meeting before and after the coaching classes.”

Soon, both started living together in a rented house in Greater Noida. Nikki’s sister would also reportedly come and live with them at times.

Another fridge’s door opened to death

On the intervening night of 9 and 10th February 2023, Nikki allegedly confronted Sahil about his marriage plans with another woman. Following an argument, he allegedly strangled her to death using the data cable of his mobile phone kept in his car near Kashmiri Gate ISBT. Then he reportedly stored her body in a fridge at his family’s dhaba on the outskirts of Najafgarh and dared to marry another woman without any guilt in his eyes on the same day.

Police said Nikki’s sister didn’t suspect anything. She was under the impression that Nikki and Sahil had gone on a trip. Afterwards, locals who knew them got suspicious when Nikki went missing and Sahil married another woman. They informed the police. Initially, Sahil was untraceable, and his phone was switched off. After several searches, Delhi police arrested Sahil on 14th February.

He confessed about the crime and led the police to the dumped body. The body has been sent for post-mortem. His Hyundai car used in the crime has been seized. An FIR has been filed under section 302- the murder of IPC, 201- disappearing of evidence of the offence. The FIR states there were ‘Strangulation marks on her neck’ and ‘injury marks on her waist and legs’.

Special CP crime Ravindra Yadav said, “He confessed to his crime and told us he killed Nikki Yadav on February 9-10. His family was pressuring him to marry, and they fixed his engagement and wedding. But he did not inform Yadav and continued living with her. However, she found out about the wedding from someone else and confronted him.”

Sunil Yadav, Nikki’s father, said he hadn’t been able to reach her since 11 February. But no missing complaint was filed. He claimed he had no clue about Nikki and Sahil’s relationship.

Nikki’s father is now seeking the death penalty for Gehlot. The kin of the deceased has been claiming that Nikki was not in a living relationship with Gehlot and the media is falsely defaming the family.

This case has a disturbing resemblance to the Shraddha Walker Murder case. She was killed by her live-in partner, who cut her body into 35 pieces and stored it in a fridge before disposing them in a forest.
