The worker in tea garden has observed a 24-hour-long strike in Siliguri, in North Bengal, recently.

Workers from 300 tea gardens located in the regions of Terai and Doars of Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts are involved in the strike.

Saman Pathak, leader of the combined meeting representing the tea garden workers, said more than 250 workers from closed and sick gardens had died due to poor medical services or malnutrition-related issues.

“The government and the owners of the gardens have not responded after this activity, wages of large number of workers are still pending by the authorities. That is the reason we were forced to shut down the gardens, I think that will affect them and persuade them to think about us.” says Pathak.
