Member of India’s cabinet, the Minister for Culture Mahesh Sharma today literally put his foot in it!
Making a statement about the renaming of Aurangzeb Road in Delhi’s elite Lutyens zone, he was quoted as saying “We have renamed Aurangzeb Road after a person, who despite being a Muslim, is a great nationalist…”, referring to renaming the road after India’s late ex-President Abdul Kalam.
Eliciting sharp reactions from all sections of society, his remark has been treated as being very offensive, and implying that members of a particular community are anti-national by nature.
