Cherrapunjee, the wettest place within last 24 hours.

Meghalaya is still experiencing heavy rainfall since last Tuesday due to the Monsoon trough that is running along the foothills of Himalayas. The Monsoon trough according to Skymet is predicting more heavy showers within the next 48 hours.

Cherrapunjee formerly known as Sohra is on the edge of a 1,290 above sea level plateau on the southern slopes of Meghalaya. It gets an average rainfall of 12,000 mm a year. It is 56 km from Shillong and broke a record of 471.7mm of rain in a day breaking its last record 10 years ago of more than 64mm of rain. So far this month, it can proudly reclaim itself as the wettest place on earth with 1,644.5 mm.
