Budget 2019: Budget session begins


Parliament for Budget Session has begun from today.  The parliament will meet from today till February 13. The interim budget would be presented on February 1. Notably, this year the budget would be presented bt interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal.

The session will end of February 13 began with an address by President Ram Nath Kovind to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. This is the last session of the 16th Lok Sabha as general elections will take place in April and May.

On the eve of Budget Session, Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan Said, “All parties have assured their cooperation in the smooth functioning of the house and urged the members to raise issues of national importance.

Important Highlights:

1. The session will have 10 sittings and government will try to get triple talaq bill passed in Rajya Sabha, where it is pending

2. There are reports that the government might announce a farm relief package in the upcoming budget. On this, President Ram Nath Kovind said, “Government is attempting to find permanent solutions for problems face by the farmers.” As they are the foundation of our economy.

3India has become the world’s second largest manufacturer of mobile phones under Make in India Program, said President Ram Nath Kovind

4. President Ram Nath Kovind said that there was uncertainty before 2014 and now the government is working towards building a New India

5. President also spoke about the 10 percent quota to poor. He said,” The historic decision was approved by Parliament in the winter session. The initiative will help the poor.”

Budget 2019 Expectations

Although it is an interim budget, there are high expectations from it. This is the last budget of the Modi Government and they have so many things in store. Big announcements on tax exemption hike could be made to woo middle class. Health care and farmers issues would remain the main focus.
