Twitter Announces Monetization plan: Verified creators to be paid for ad replies; Elon Musk highlights revenue sharing initiative
On July 14, Twitter made an important announcement that will benefit verified users and potentially change the landscape of the platform. Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, revealed the launch of a revenue sharing program for eligible creators. In this program, Twitter will start paying verified content creators for ads included in their replies. The initial payment block will be approximately $5 million. However, it is crucial to note that only verified users will receive these payments. Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter in October of the previous year, emphasised this requirement in a tweet.
Since Musk took over Twitter, the platform has faced challenges in retaining advertisers. Advertisers have been concerned about where their ads are placed, especially after the company laid off a significant number of employees. To address this issue, Twitter aims to incentivize verified content creators by sharing revenue with them.
This announcement coincides with the appointment of Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter. Yaccarino, a seasoned advertising professional from NBCUniversal, is expected to bring her expertise to enhance the platform’s advertising capabilities.

In March, Musk stated that Twitter currently earns about 5 or 6 cents per hour of user attention. However, he believes this figure could increase to 15 cents or more by incorporating more relevant and timely advertisements.
