Batting first, the Jaffna Kings set a formidable target of 173/5 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to an outstanding knock by Bangladesh’s Towhid Hridoy, who scored a blistering 54 runs off just 39 balls. His aggressive batting, comprising four boundaries and one maximum, set the tone for an action-packed game.
Colombo Strikers’ chase got off to a rocky start as Naseem Shah came charging in. Known for his impressive pace and swing, Shah made an instant impact by dismissing Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam, for a mere 7 runs. Azam’s early departure was a major setback for Colombo, and they struggled to recover from that point onwards.
Shah’s moment of triumph, however, came when he managed to break through Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s defences, getting him caught for 21 runs off just 11 balls. The dismissal was accompanied by a passionate celebration from Shah, who also engaged in a bit of sledging as Gurbaz made his way back to the pavilion. But before Shah’s heroics, Gurbaz had received a stroke of luck during the opening over of the match. Shah had delivered a fiery ball that induced an edge from Gurbaz’s bat, but it evaded the slip fielder and raced to the boundary ropes for a fortunate four. However, luck was not on Gurbaz’s side for long, as Shah’s lethal bowling soon had him back in the pavilion.

Naseem Shah’s cricketing prowess is not unknown to fans. Despite Shah’s fiery spell and crucial wicket, he couldn’t complete his full quota of four overs, conceding 30 runs in three overs. Nevertheless, his contribution proved vital in securing the victory for the Jaffna Kings, who clinched the opener by a comfortable margin of 21 runs.
