Never do these 5 things in your car while driving: Take a look

Every evening starting from 6:00 PM till 10:00 PM in the night, thousands of car owners leave their offices to reach home. What many of them do on the way, may as well ensure their arrival at a hospital, instead of home, and if not them then probably someone else. While you may not be one of these drivers, you should be very clear of the things you want to do and the things you don’t want to do while driving. Better still, spread the word, and help make the world a safer place. Never do these 5 things in your car while driving, take a look.

things you should never do while driving

Here’s a list of 5 activities you should avoid doing while driving

1.Fiddling with Phone

Texting, calling, watching videos, and browsing social media are four sins usually committed on the road with a smartphone. It is appalling to see drivers going slow in the fast lane stalling the traffic behind. Getting a little closer you often realize that they are often fiddling with their phone, or talking while holding the phone in one hand.

When you have a smartphone, it is much easier and safer to use its smart features, like voice commands while driving. When you can use the virtual assistant – Siri for Apple, Cortana for Microsoft, and Google Voice for Android, why would you risk accidents by picking up your phone in your hands?

2.Drinking While Driving

Just in case you did not know ‘drinking while driving’ is also prohibited, and not only driving after drinking. For many car owners, the car is not just a machine to commute; it is their personal abode of ‘inner peace’.

However, the peaceful abode feeling can go too far if you start to open a beer and whiskey bottles inside the car. The situation can go only southwards after this, drinking alone, then with friends. Add some music to it, and you may even see ‘Yama’ hovering right over the vehicle. Never do these five things while driving your car.

There is a reason why driving after drinking is not only prohibited but also discouraged. In an inebriated state with alcohol roaming freely through your veins, you may feel like a superman. But, alcohol doesn’t give your muscles any strengths whatsoever.

In fact, your reflexes suffer, you may feel everything moving too slow around you, but your body may not listen to your commands. Not to mention your decision-making ability and ability to comprehend the entirety of situation suffers. In nut-shell drinking may improve your feeling but it dampens your capabilities. So, don’t test it while driving.

3.Driving Without Side Rear View Mirrors

It is quite natural sometimes to forget to open the side rearview mirrors while taking your vehicle out in a jiffy. However, you should correct it as soon as possible, especially when you are hitting a highway. Side mirrors are in the best possible position to increase your awareness about the vehicles heading towards you from behind.

The top rear view mirror leaves much of the spots blind, especially the sides. Also, not all vehicles on the road will be as big as cars or trucks. When you are driving with your side view mirrors closed, you are unaware of the smaller vehicles coming behind you. So to avoid unnecessary collisions and accidents, always use both your side mirrors

4. Trying to Grab Things from Inside the Car

We may keep a lot of useful and tasteful things in the car, but trying to access them while moving at 80KMPH should be avoided. Best thing to do is to park your vehicle on the side of the road and then find whatever you are looking for. Essentials like water bottles, blue tooth earpieces etc. should be kept close by, for example in the bin near the gear lever, or in the side tray in the door on the driver side.

Always Have Car Insurance Policy

While you may try your best to avoid doing things that may lead to an accident. But you can still not have any control over what others may be doing. One way to be prepared is to have a good car insurance policy in place.

While buying car insurance don’t just look for the minimum basic policy which may only save you from a challan. You need to look for benefits that can help you get broader coverage. Even in the case of simple breakdown, you should not have to negotiate for rescue.

Car insurance

Here are few such features available in comprehensive car insurance policies which you may need:

a. Roadside Assistance (RSA)

Roadside assistance cover is designed to ensure a hassle-free experience every time you drive your car on the road. This add-on provides you access to services in the event of an emergency while driving through a remote location or one without any service centers. This way you can commute without worrying about any unpleasant events.

Coverage inclusions:

  • Towing of the vehicle to the nearest service station
  • Fuel delivery
  • Repair of stalled vehicle

b. Accidental Cover for Passengers

This is a personal accident cover which provides compensation to passengers in case of disability or death caused by an accident.

  • Engine Protection Cover

During rains, submerging of cars in rain waters is a common scenario in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Engine protection add-on helps you overcome the damage to your car’s engine due to water ingression which results in a hydrostatic lock. Having a comprehensive insurance with this add-on is a wise way to take care of the massive cost of repairs, especially when the car’s engine is damaged.

Apart from these add-ons, you can also increase the coverage for damage to third-party property/vehicle or enhance the third-party medical cover to make it more comprehensive. This will ensure that in case of any major damage, you are adequately covered against the liability. There are many other benefits that can not only save your time in an accident but also keep your pockets intact, in case of major medical costs.
