Child abuse can have long -lasting affects on the victim. It causes and effects significant harm to a child. It can be physical, sexual or emotional.

In India, there are escalating cases of child abuse. It is necessary for children to know that their body belongs to them and if anyone touches them with bad touch, it will lead just as damaging to a child as physical abuse. An abused child will often experience more than one type of abuse, as well as other difficulties like depression, loneliness, irritation and many more in their lives.

Types of Child Abuse: –

Domestic Abuse: – Children who live in homes where there is domestic violence grow up in an environment that is unpredictable, filled with tension and anxiety and dominated by fear. This can lead to significant emotional and psychological trauma, similar to that experienced by children who are victims of child abuse. Instead of growing up in a safe, secure, nurturing and predictable environment, these children are forced to worry about the future; they usually try to predict when it will be happen next and try to protect themselves and their siblings. Often getting through each day is the main objective so there is no time left for them to fun, relaxation or planning for the future.

Sexual Abuse: – Sexual abuse includes touching and non-touching activity. Touching a child’s genitals or private parts for sexual pleasure making a child touch someone else’s genitals, showing pornography to a child, photographing a child in sexual poses, inappropriately watching a child undress or use the bathroom, encouraging a child to watch or hear sexual acts, play sexual games or have sex putting objects or body parts (like fingers, tongue or penis) inside the vagina, in the mouth or in the anus of a child for sexual pleasure.

Neglect: – A neglected child may be always sick, may bd late or never at school. Neglect comes in different forms such as physical and emotional, and more girls suffer than boys, with younger children neglected most. Once children are in school, may be they have to face poor hygiene, poor weight gain, inadequate medical care, or frequent absences from school. Some researchers have proposed 5 different types of neglect- physical neglect, emotional neglect, medical neglect, mental health neglect, and educational neglect.

Online Abuse: – Online abuse is a type of abuse that happens on the web, whether through social networks, playing online games or using mobile phones. Children and young people may experience cyber bullying, grooming, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation or emotional abuse.

Physical Abuse: – Physical abuse is a kind of abuse that intentionally someone hurting a child causing injuries such as bruises, broken bones, burns, cuts or injuries or trauma. It isn’t accidental – children who are physically abused suffer violence such as being hit, kicked, poisoned, burned, and slapped or having objects thrown at them.

Emotional Abuse: – Children living with domestic violence suffer emotional and psychological trauma from the impact of living in a household that is dominated by tension and fear. These children will see their mother threatened, demeaned or physically or sexually assaulted. Either they overhear conflict and violence and see the aftermath of the violence such as their mother’s injuries and her traumatic response to the violence. Children also may be used and manipulated by the abuser to hurt their mother.

Child Sexual Exploitation: – Child sexual exploitation is a type of sexual abuse in which child is controlled through force, threats or manipulation. It can be happen to both boys and girls. Often, in this case someone try to be friendly a young person to gain their trust or have control over them. This is called grooming, and can lead to children being abused and raped.

Female Genital Mutilation (FMG): – Female Genital Mutilation is a type of sexual abuse is the most horrific abuses that can be perpetrated on a young girl. It involves the excision of the clitoris, cutting of the labia and, in its most extreme form, sewing the vaginal lips shut.

Bullying and Cyber bullying: – Bullying, that happens online using social networks, games and mobile phones, is often called cyber bullying. It is a kind of behavior that hurts someone else – such as name spreading rumors, threatening or undermining someone on internet. A child feels like there’s no escape to go anywhere. It could happen anywhere- at school, at home or at online. It can hurt a child both physically and emotionally.

Grooming: – Grooming is a kind of process in which an offender draws a victim into a sexual relationship and maintains that relationship in secrecy. The shrouding of the relationship is an essential feature of grooming.

Harmful Sexual Behavior: – Harmful sexual behavior is a type of abuse in which children and young people who behave in a sexually harmful way may have been abused in the past. Sometimes a child’s reaction to past abuse can lead to them developing harmful sexual behavior.

Apart from the emotional, physical, social and behavioral damage abuse creates for children, statistics show that domestic violence can also become a learned behavior. This means that children may grow up to think it is okay to use violence to get what they want and as adults that it is okay for there to be violence in their relationships.
