Earth Hour was founded by World Wildlife Foundation in year 2007, and it is designed to spread awareness about energy consumption and climatic changes that are affecting human species. Interestingly in year 2016, millions of people came together to show their support for action to protect our planet. Last year, 350 major landmarks throughout the world, including the Eiffel Tower and Buckingham Palace turned off lights to support the move.

Last year in UK around 10.5 million took part in the global blackout. The coordinators of the event are requesting each and every individual to give their contribution by switching off the lights. The event will start after the sunset (between 8:30pm and 9:30 pm, according to local time)

Last year, Paris was the Global Earth Hour Capital for its long- term vision in climate action and for its commitment towards sustainable development.

Notably, last year scientists had recorded the Earth’s hottest temperatures in modern times for the third year in a row. The event is celebrated to increase the awareness about the energy conservation because this will not only make our present better, but will also help the future generation.

So, this year lets us just come together and take a pledge to save our planet by conserving energy.
