Security tightens ahead of the Rail Roko demonstration

The security personnel have been deployed at the Mandya Railway Station as the “Rail Roko” protest by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike is possible against the Supreme Court verdict to Karnataka to release the Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu.

Different associations, including Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Jai Karnataka, Vatal Kannada Paksha and Dr. Rajkumar Fans are among the 800 Kannada organizations which will be taking part in the protest. Speaking to the media, Mandya’s Police Superintendent Sudhir Kumar Reddy said that all sorts of arrangement have been made to deal with any kind of trouble.

“Currently there are three to four agencies, including the local police, the GRPs, RPF included in the security arrangements apart from that we also have the paramilitary forces deployed. Everybody is all set to perform their duty and are here to personally supervise the arrangements. Arrangements have been made for everything,” he said.

In the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka no reports of violence have been reported, however the interstate transport through Karnataka border still remains at standstill.

The district administration arranged some special buses to bring the passengers who were left at the Karnataka side of the border to Hosur, and from there they could proceed to their respective destinations.

Yesterday, the curfew was lifted from all the 16 police station limits in Bengaluru as the city started back its normal life after widespread violence over the Cauvery river water sharing row with neighbouring state Tamil Nadu.
