SC modifies order in Cauvery water row

On September 5th, the Supreme Court of India had passed an order in ongoing Cauvery water row which required the Karnataka government torelease 15,000 cusecs of water from the Cauvery for 10 days to Tamil Nadu.

This was done to reduce the plight of the farmers. Soon after the order was passed and even when Karnataka released water to Tamil Nadu, a huge uproar was caused amongst the people of the state.

People had started protesting and roads were blocked. After this, Karnataka government had moved to the apex court to suspend its earlier judgment.

Though the SC did not suspend the order, it reduced the quantity to 12,000 cusecs a day. Karnataka has to release water to Tamil Nadu till 20thof September.
