90 percent of the people seek peace in Kashmir


Art of Living (AOL) founder and Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has today said that 90 percent of the people seek peace in Kashmir and have asserted that a solution to the Kashmir problem can only come from Kashmiris.

While, asserting that the conflict in Kashmir has also become a cash cow for some and the people are suffering, he said, “In Kashmir, people are further restraining themselves from opening their mouth due to threat of guns. 90 percent of the people want only peace and development but their voice is being silenced.”

Former militants, stone-pelters and also the victims of militancy, besides various stake holders took take part in the conference, which was organised by AOL, in order to promote peace in Kashmir.

“The people who are seen with stones are talking about peace. They have come forward for the peace initiative. The people who were in the militancy, the youth who were involved in these stone pelting and in drug addiction have taken part in the conference,” the spiritual guru said.

“Media has not projected this issue and others are also ignoring it. They are the neglected population and there is a need for a platform for them to air their voices openly,” Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said.

Create a new ideology

Sri Sri said that, he is working to bring back peace in Kashmir, as he wants to create a new ideology, in order to move in the right direction.

“The biggest problem in Kashmir is the drug addiction. The youths are further trying to come out of this menace. The problem in Kashmir is trust-deficit. We need to further change this environment,” Sri Sri said.

On the mutilation of a jawan’s body and killing of three soldiers in an offensive by Pakistan, he said it is condemnable and sad that the people are behaving like this by further engineering human rights violation.

On demonetisation, he said it is a very important step to weed out corruption, black money, terrorism and drug addiction.
