Indian Navy has successfully launched long-range missile LR-SAM

In a step to strengthen the anti-aircraft capabilities of the naval assets of the country at sea, the Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LR-SAM) has been launched, which can intercept incoming targets at a range of 80 km.

The missile was successfully tested against a flying target from an Israeli warship in November 2014.

It was approved in 2005 with an initial financial support of Rs. 2,606 crore and was to be inducted in 2011 but has been delayed due to technical difficulties.
