The court has said, “Even if a person in job for 20 years on the basis of fake caste certificate will lose his or her job and will also get punished.”

Notably, a bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice DY Chandrachud did not concur with the findings of the Bombay High Court that if a person continues in service for a period of time and certificate is found to be fake at a later stage, then the person will be allowed to continue with his/ her service.

A batch of petitions was filed against the decision of Bombay High Court. The Supreme Court, however, has said that nobody would be spared and it will be applicable from now onwards.
