The first session of the newly elected Assam Assembly will be beginning today at Dispur in Guwahati.
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) met yesterday evening, with Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal, before a three-day session of the Assembly.
The BJP and its alliance partners Bodoland Peoples Front and Asom Gana Parishad have further decided the BJP legislator Ranjit Kumar Das as the Speaker of the new Assembly.

A Field Publicity Officer of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and a former journalist, Mr. Das represents the Sorbhog Assembly seat and will be filing the nomination papers today for the post and is expected to win uncontested.
Prior to that, the Pro-team Speaker Phani Bhusan Choudhary will be conducting the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected MLAs.
