CBI to probe into UNA Dalit atrocities case: PIL

A PIL is now seeking a CBI probe into the atrocities on Dalit youths at Una in Gir Somnath district last month, which was filed before the Gujarat High Court today.

The PIL, which was filed by Ratna Vora, an advocate associated with the NGO Ambedkar Karwan, is likely to come up for the hearing on Wednesday.

Further, demanding an investigation by the central agency, the petitioner has also contended that the current probe into the incident by CID may further remain “inconclusive” like the one which happened in Thangadh case wherein three Dalits youths were allegedly killed in the firing by police in 2012 in Surendranagar district.

The PIL stated that CID has also submitted a closure report in the Thangadh case, which said that no offence was made out against anyone. Moreover, Police have not even filed any charge sheet in the case.

In the Una incident, the Dalit youths were beaten up allegedly by some cow vigilantes accused of skinning a dead cow on date July 11. The incident was also captured on mobile and the video was uploaded on various social networking sites, which triggered a violent backlash by Dalits in Gujarat which resulted in a huge outrage across the country.

Moreover, Police have arrested over 30 people in the connection with the assault on Dalits.
