CBI raids NDTV co –founder Prannoy Roy; Channel calls it witch –hunt


According to a report, a case was registered by the banking fraud division of CBI against NDTV’S co – founder Prannoy Roy. Notably, the tax department and ED are investigating the news channel since 2014.

As per reports, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday searched the offices and homes of NDTV news channels promoters Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy in a connection to bank fraud. Notably, the premises of NDTV were not raided. Searches were carried out on at four places in Delhi, Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, the channel has called it a Witch- Hunt. Notably, the CBI had last week registered a case into allegations irregularities in a 2008 loan that the holding company took from ICICI bank.

According to the FIR filed, the loan defaulted by NDTV’d Prannoy Roy is for a company named RRPR holdings Private limited. The channel is calling it witch –hunting but the government has claimed there is no witch – hunting involved. NDTV’s Managing Editor tweeted, “Message is clear : any independent voices in media will be bullied and shut down. Black Day.”
