RE-EVALUATE YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

Well, we all know how skin responds during summer and winter. Now, if you’ve been using heavy oils and creams all winter to fight dry skin, kudos to you. Try to consider something lighter for summer, and possibly with a greater SPF if more hours are spent outside.

USE LIGHT MAKEUP

Summertime is extremely hot for heavy makeup and you don’t want to walk around with a face full of the type of makeup you wore when it was cold. Not only will it run & smudge when you sweat, but it can also lead to clogged pores. Give your skin the advantage of the warmth and humidity that comes with summer.

CHOOSE YOUR DEODORANT WISELY

Avoid any chemical-based deodorant products and try natural ones for your skin. Chemical-based deodorants may burn your skin so that is why it is widely recommended to use natural deodorants as they work better with time.

DETOX

Consider detoxing a bit during summer days on a regular basis by adding a scoop of greens to your morning smoothie, or have green tea three times a day, or experiment with some vegan dishes.

AVOID GOING OUT DURING THE HOTTEST PART OF THE DAY

Always try to catch the early cool of the morning, or go out at sunset. During the heat of midday (between 10 am and 4 pm) take cover under shade. Try to be in a pool whenever you can or sign up for an aqua-aerobics class. You can also carry a spray bottle for skin surface cooling to help keep you fresh.

WEAR LIGHT-COLORED, LIGHTWEIGHT

During summers, dark shades can make you feel as if you’re wrapped in a warm blanket along with heavyweight, tight-fitting clothing which will also heat you up. So, keep it loose and light as more air will be able to circulate over your skin, keeping it cool. Also, try wearing loose cotton clothes instead of tighter clothes. Also, while travelling, ensure that you’re covering yourself with a damp cloth on your head, neck, face, and limbs to protect you from harmful sun rays.

DRINK UP TO STAY HYDRATED

The essential step to keep cool is to drink plenty of water as often as possible along with fresh juices to give your body the extra hydration it needs to make it through the hot days and to help with flushing toxins out of your body. The more you work physically, the more water you should drink as you’ll be sweating a lot. Also, steer clear of sports drinks or any other artificial drinks as they’re loaded with calories along with alcoholic, hot drinks including tea and coffee as they can make dehydration worse.

MINDFUL EATING

Avoid every oily stuff and eat fresh fruits and green vegetables as they are easy to digest and will give your hydration levels a boost. Studies suggest being mindful while you dine may help you eat less and even lose weight specially during summers. Try to eat only when you feel hungry and check the colours, smells, flavours, and textures of what you’re looking at, and eat till when you feel satisfied. Avoid eating warming grains like bajra and consider more cooling grains like rice, brown rice, millet, barley, oats or even porridge (Daliya).

WORKOUT

Always remember that even a 20-minute workout has positive health effects because what matters is how well and regularly you do it and not how long you do it. The number of days you exercise matters the most, not the length of time of any given session. Even taking simple walks is a great place to start.

PROTECT YOUR HOME FROM THE HEAT

Consider installing curtains, roller shades, or blinds to block direct sunlight that enters and makes your room warm. The light paint of your room reflects the heat away from your home. Make sure to get your air conditioner ready before the summer season arrives. Also, always keep pets in shade and give them plenty of water to drink.

SHIELD YOURSELF

Always carry an umbrella whenever you are out to shield yourself from the harsh rays of the sun. It may not seem a big deal but the fact is, the more you keep yourself under the shade, the more you will feel active. When you return home, make sure to have a refreshing drink like lemonade, buttermilk, coconut water, or just plain water. Also, while travelling, make sure you have a bottle of water with you to cover yourself from intense sun rays.

SHOWERS BEAR REWARDS

It is very essential to shower at least twice a day as bathing helps to bring down the body temperature. Research says that it is best to bathe with lukewarm water, but they also suggest if you are physically fit then taking a cold shower may actually switch you into ‘heat preservation’ mode.

HOLIDAYS & VACATIONS

We all know summertime usually means vacations as everyone craves a little extra time to spend with their loved ones. Try to take some time off from your work and go with your family to any beach place as they are the perfect location for this kind of season. Trust us, you won’t regret it. Make sure not to leave kids or pets in parked vehicles as they become so hot to be inside.

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

If you’re feeling heat-related distress then immediately seek medical aid, consult your doctor and follow his/her advice if you find any medical conditions. Continue drinking plenty of fluids, and eat fruits and veggies as a healthy diet because your doctor is also going to advise you the same. Also, take time to rest and recover because coping with such extreme hot weather can be very tiring and unpleasant.
