History: In Africa, the rhinoceros crisis first surfaced in 1990. By 2010, it had spread across the country and people had begun to voice their concerns. As there were only 30,000 rhinos left on the earth at the time, the crisis was quickly brought to light. World Wildlife Fund-South Africa declared World Rhino Day at that time to raise awareness of the situation and the necessity of protecting these animals. A woman by the name of Lisa Jane Campbell expressed her desire to see at least five kinds of rhinos living around the globe in a letter she sent to Rhishja in 2011. Thus, World Rhino Day became a global phenomenon and is still observed on September 22 globally.

The primary goals of World Rhino Day are:

Raising Awareness: The day attempts to inform people about the serious conservation concerns rhinos are facing, including habitat loss and rhino horn poaching.

Encourage conservation: This calls for action from people, groups, and governments to save rhino populations and their habitats.

Mobilize Support: World Rhino Day is an opportunity to rally behind anti-poaching campaigns, conservation initiatives, and laws that protect rhinos.
