Nationwide Mock Drills Underway Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Mock Drills Conducted in Schools, Temples, and Stations Across India
On Wednesday extensive civil defense mock drills will be held throughout India to assess the nation’s emergency response readiness in the face of rising tensions with Pakistan. On Monday the Ministry of Home Affairs instructed all states and union territories to carry out the exercises in order to assess their readiness for new and complex threats.
On Monday the directive was given as India got ready to launch Operation Sindoor which would involve attacking terror posts in Pakistan along the Line of Control (LOC) on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The attacks were a direct reaction to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam Kashmir which claimed 26 lives, the majority of them terrorists. The Indian military carried out focused strikes on nine terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as part of Operation Sindoor which took Pakistan by surprise.
It is even more important to assess India’s civil defense readiness now that tensions are expected to rise even further. These large-scale simulated exercises may have been carried out all over India since 1971.
Preparations for the mock drills have started in districts all over the nation. Although the start time for the mock drills in the designated locations throughout India is probably 4 pm the exact time may differ depending on the district.
According to the government the simulated exercises will include activating emergency control rooms simulating a wartime blackout coordinating with the Indian Air Force simulating air raid sirens and practicing evacuations.
In Kolkata 4 Schools Participated in Evacuation Drills
Four private schools in Kolkata held evacuation drills on Wednesday to gauge students’ readiness in the event of an emergency against the backdrop of India-Pakistan tensions.
DPS-Ruby Park La Martiniere for Boys La Martiniere for Girls and Future Foundation School served as the locations for the drills.
According to a representative of the two La Martiniere schools the National Cadet Corps (NCC) wings carried out the exercises in accordance with directives from the government.
To ensure that students were familiar with the steps necessary in the event of an emergency the entire exercise was completed in 30 minutes. He reported that the students were eager and full of energy to engage in the activity.
An Exercise in Security was Held at the CSMT Station in Mumbai
To evaluate and improve disaster preparedness emergency mock drills are being held all over the nation. In Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Railway Station Civil Defence teams carried out a thorough simulated exercise as part of this national campaign. Images from CSMT depict staff members acting out emergency situations including coordinated evacuations, medical crises, bomb threats and crowd control.

Mumbai’s Cross Maidan hosted a simulated security exercise
Mumbai’s Cross Maidan hosted a mock civil defense exercise on Wednesday. On Monday the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order for today’s nationwide simulated exercise. //. The drill began with sirens sounding and civil defense personnel attending to those in need. Its purpose was to review readiness in the event of a crisis.
A Security Exercise was Held at the Siliguri School in West Bengal
Following instructions from the Union Home Ministry a civil defense mock drill was conducted at a school in Siliguri West Bengal on Wednesday.
During the drill teachers and students received a crisis preparedness briefing from security personnel.
A Mock Drill was Held at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai
On directives from the Home Ministry the Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force held a simulated exercise at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) station.
Code-named Operation Abhyaas, the nationwide simulated exercise will be carried out at 244 sites throughout India in order to evaluate preparedness for emerging and complex threats.

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi Served as the Site of the Mock Drill
The Home Ministry’s civil defense drills included an alert at Varanasi Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The location is fully prepared with security agencies, a bomb squad and the NDRF present.
All Over Delhi Simulated Security Exercises were Held
Following the Home Ministry’s directives, civil defense exercises were held throughout the nation’s capital on Wednesday. In addition to a few strategic locations numerous schools throughout Delhi also hosted mock drills. The massive mock drills in Delhi start in 55 locations
Mock drills that simulated various hostile scenarios including air raids, multiple fire emergencies and search and rescue operations were conducted in Delhi on Wednesday as part of a nationwide exercise.
There was a significant deployment of security guards and civil defense volunteers and PCR vans and fire engines were positioned at various locations.
The evacuation drill at Khan Market included the sounding of alarm sirens and the request that people flee.
A mock exercise was conducted in Chandni Chowk with the participation of NCC cadets, civil defense volunteers and staff.
Bengaluru Conducts Evacuations and Rescue Missions
Mock drills were conducted in Bengaluru on Wednesday at approximately 4 p. m. as part of Operation Abhyaas in accordance with instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Civil defense police fire and emergency services personnel sprang into action shortly after the siren blew at 3:48 p. m. in multiple locations.
Rescue operations in the event of a fire debris removal, high-rise evacuation and medical emergency services were all included in the drills.
In half an hour the drill was over.
At the RBI Building IGI Airport and Other Locations Sirens are Blaring
On Wednesday as the country practiced simulated exercises sirens were sounded at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Along with several ambulances and a group of doctors, fire department personnel were hurried to the scene.
The RBI building also hosted a simulated exercise where participants were instructed to avoid glass windows and locate a secure location where they could cover their heads with both hands.
Kerala Conducted an Evacuation Exercise
On Wednesday a nationally mandated mock drill began with an alarm going off and the lights turned off at the Collectorate building in Ernakulam Kerala.
Windows were closed and the building went dark to simulate a real-world emergency. The upper floors then underwent a fire simulation. As the smoke grew darkness swiftly engulfed the building.
Rescue efforts started right away as is customary. In order to safely evacuate everyone inside the building firefighters, police units and civil defense volunteers participated in the exercise.
The drill was overseen and participated in by the district collector as well.
