Negligence at Telangana Factory: Explosion Exposes Alarming Safety Lapses
Witnesses from a Telangana factory speak out: Survivors at a pharmaceutical facility in the Pashamylaram Industrial Estate in the Sangareddy district recounted the horrific moments of the massive explosion that has already claimed at least 42 lives with more bodies being recovered as rescue efforts continue.
Witnesses told the media about the aftermath stating that workers were tossed into the air and thrown several meters away due to the blast’s powerful impact.
Numerous employees were reportedly in the vicinity of the reactor when it exploded. Numerous workers at the facility were migrant laborers from Odisha Uttar Pradesh and other states according to South First.
Workers Flung Themselves and Fell 100 Meters Away
Damodar Rajanarasimha, the health minister for Telangana told reporters Monday that roughly 90 workers were there when the explosion occurred.
Using workers as witnesses he stated: The industrial shed was totally destroyed by the explosion and the force of the blast was so great that some of the workers were flung into the air and fell down about 100 meters away.
Speaking on the spot Patancheru MLA Mahipal Reddy charged the business with disregarding safety procedures. The business operates with no safety measures in place. A lot of people have been hurt and killed, he said, accusing the management of hiding the true death toll.
How Did it Go Wrong?
The Telangana pharmaceutical plant exploded causing the manufacturing unit to collapse and surrounding buildings within the factory compound to quickly catch fire.

The number of people still trapped beneath the debris was unknown to rescue teams according to Y Nagi Reddy, Director General of the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services who spoke on Monday. He stated According to industry experts the incident occurred when microcrystalline cellulose was being handled or dried by air. We don’t yet know how many people are beneath the rubble.
The explosion took place at approximately 9:20 a. m. on Monday at the manufacturing facility of Sigachi Industries Ltd. a well-known manufacturer of food ingredients, cosmetics pharmaceutical excipients and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). The company confirmed in a statement: The incident occurred near our Hyderabad plant which is located in Pashamylaram Phase-1 at around 9:20 a.m.

The stock exchange was notified later in the day by Sigachi Industries that production at the Hyderabad facility would be halted for ninety days in order to facilitate repairs and restoration. According to the filing the incident caused damage to certain ancillary equipment and civil structures within the facility in addition to the human losses. The company went on to say Our top priority is still the safety of our employees even though the precise number of injuries is still being verified.
Out of Sigachi Industries 21700 MTPA capacity, 6000 MTPA come from the Hyderabad plant which is one of the company’s three MCC manufacturing facilities. Two other Gujarati facilities provide the remaining output.
Because of the thick smoke that spread throughout the area and made breathing difficult, the explosion has caused widespread panic among the local population and employees. As a precaution authorities have started evacuating the local population.
