“Jaishankar Slams Pakistan: Terrorists Roam Freely in Daylight”
S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, recently claimed that some of the world’s most highly-identified terrorists are located in Pakistan. Much of their activity happens in the main cities, clear for all to see. The locations of these addresses are not a secret. We have a decent idea of what they do. People who know both are well-known.” The comment, given during an interview with Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant, was a bold and definite strike against Pakistan’s continuing claim to being innocent in cross-border terrorism.
Jaishankar is clear: Pakistan is entirely aware of the terror activities happening on its soil. He insisted, “We cannot just ignore that Pakistan is involved.” The government is taking part. The army seems to be completely involved in everything. By saying this so strongly, India reinforces its view that terrorism from Pakistan is encouraged and supported by the Pakistani government and its military.
He explained this by asking if a government could claim they didn’t know about a massive military training centre in the middle of a city like Amsterdam if tens of thousands of people were involved. This analysis was designed to point out that, no matter their words, no one could believe Pakistan did not know about terrorists Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar when they lived openly in its urban centers.
The Foreign Minister made a link between the recent Pahalgam terror attack aimed at faith-based killings and Pakistan’s army chief’s “extreme religious beliefs.” It appears that the beliefs of military chiefs in Pakistan influence both terrorist activities and their nature.
Jaishankar reiterated India’s position to Pakistan that it is currently under a ceasefire agreement, but if terrorist incidents initiated from Pakistani soil continue, the consequences of that will be significant. He further indicated that India wants “a definitive end to terrorism” and will hold no reservations about “hitting the terrorists where they are” if they continue. His strong and fierce tone suggests that India is prepared to take strong action against terrorism regardless of where it may originate.
Jaishankar furthermore made a clear distinction between the two issues of terrorism and the Kashmir issue. He repeated Pakistan’s position which made clear it considers terrorism an “independent, completely unacceptable international criminal act which can never be condoned or justified.” Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s position that Jammu and Kashmir, which includes Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), is intrinsic to India and that the only issue outstanding on Kashmir is the incorporation of PoK into India.

In essence, Jaishankar’s “big swipe at Pakistan” was a condemnation of its alleged state-sponsored terrorism that was thorough and absolute. It was definitive warning to Islamabad and a clarion call to the international community to stop accepting the disingenuous denials of Pakistan.
