New Video From Goa Nightclub Shows Moment Electronic Firecracker Triggered Blaze That Killed 25
Goa Nightclub Tragedy: Rapid Fire Spread and Blocked Exits Led to 25 Deaths
Goa Nightclub Video Shows Sparks Reaching Flammable Ceiling
A newly surfaced video from inside Romeo’s Goa Nightclub, also known as Birch by Romeo Lane, has provided the most definitive view yet of how Saturday night’s deadly blaze began. The clip, released on Monday, captures an electronic firecracker being set off during a belly dance and live music performance. Moments later, sparks shoot upward, instantly reaching the bamboo-lined ceiling. Within seconds, the flames begin to spread rapidly, engulfing the upper structure before anyone could react.
The footage closely matches another video released on Sunday from a different angle, which also indicated that sparks from an electronic firecracker — not a cylinder blast as initially claimed — may have ignited the flammable décor.
Flammable Interiors and Blocked Exits Worsened Tragedy
Officials noted that the nightclub’s interiors, made of bamboo slats, palm leaves, and other combustible materials, intensified the spread of the fire. Once the sparks hit the ceiling, flames raced across the venue at alarming speed, turning the packed club into a death trap around 11:45 pm.
Nearly 100 people were on the dance floor when chaos unfolded. Thick smoke quickly filled the basement and ground-floor kitchen, causing widespread disorientation. Many victims, including tourists and staff, ran downstairs in search of an exit but became trapped when escape routes became inaccessible. Most fatalities occurred due to smoke inhalation.
A fire brigade official confirmed that suffocation and confusion during evacuation were the primary reasons for the high casualty count. Evacuation efforts were hindered by narrow entry points, small doors, and a constricted bridge leading to the club. Firefighting operations were also slowed because water tankers had to be stationed almost 400 metres away.

Authorities Investigating Safety Violations
The incident has triggered intense scrutiny over the club’s safety standards. Investigators are examining the use of hazardous interior materials, inadequate exits, and the decision to allow indoor pyrotechnics. The tragedy has sparked pub lic outrage, with growing demands for stricter fire safety enforcement across Goa’s nightlife hubs.
