Kerala Group in Dubai Faces Backlash for Warm Welcome to Shahid Afridi Amid Anti-India Remarks
After welcoming former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi with open arms at a recent event, a Kerala community in Dubai is receiving backlash on social media. Citing Shahid Afridi’s comments after the Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 people on April 22 and subsequently heightened tensions between India and Pakistan netizens criticized the group for their hospitality.
A video that has gone viral on social media shows the community cheering loudly as Shahid Afridi is welcomed on stage. Speaking to the crowd he states that he particularly enjoys the Kerala part of India and its cuisine.
The community members stopped their cultural performance as Afridi arrived and began chanting Boom Boom the cricket player’s well-known moniker. In response Afridi said Hogaya Boom Boom.

Afridis Contentious Comments Regarding the Pahalgam Attack
Shahid Afridi has remained steadfastly anti-Indian throughout the recent diplomatic and military standoffs between the two countries.
In an April interview with Pakistan’s Samaa TV Afridi stated that even if a firecracker were to burst in India fingers will always be pointed at Pakistan. He continued by accusing the Indian military of failing to prevent the Pahalgam terror attack saying Tum logon ki 8 lakh hi fauj hai Kashmir mein aur yeh ho gaya. . Even though you have an army of 800000 in Kashmir this still occurred. Iska matlab nalayak ho nikamme ho na tum log security de nahi sake logon ko. If you are unable to ensure peoples safety you are ineffective and worthless.
Along with mocking Indian media’s coverage of the incident, comparing it to a Bollywood production Afridi seemed to be taking a subtle jab at Indian cricket players who have accused Pakistan of being involved in the attack.
The Pahalgam terror attack was claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF) a branch of the outlawed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist organization based in Pakistan.

The community’s gesture received harsh online criticism due to the timing and Afridi’s contentious comments.
