Congress president Sonia Gandhi appeared for questioning after the Enforcement Directorate issued the 3rd summons in a money laundering case. Several Congress leaders like Shashi Tharoor, Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, P Chidambaram, and Ajay Maken were detained by the Delhi Police for protesting against the summons issued by ED.

In the same backdrop, a video of Sonia Gandhi is viral on social media.

Fake news: While sharing this video, people on social media claimed that Sonia Gandhi had given this statement in the ED office on the inquiry related to the National Herald money laundering case. Zee News also shared this video on Twitter, claiming the same.

Foolproof: The viral claim is misleading. A report in The Indian Express dated December 8, 2015, shows the same footage. The report’s title reads, “Not Scared of Anyone, and I Am Indira Gandhi’s Daughter-In-Law: Sonia Gandhi.”

What was the National Herald money laundering case?

According to the report, the matter was related to the National Herald money laundering case, which is based on Mr. Subramanian Swamy’s allegation that Congress leaders gave ₹ 90 crores as a loan from tax-exempted money to the National Herald newspaper set up in 1938 by Jawaharlal Nehru. A Delhi court had summoned Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in this case. Rahul and Sonia appealed to the Delhi High Court to quash the summons. However, the appeal was dismissed. When journalists questioned Sonia Gandhi in the Parliament House about this, she said that she is the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi and is not afraid of anyone.

Kisne Feka: Following the arrests of 4 persons by Lucknow Police for offering religious prayers in LuLu Mall, a claim is going viral across social media that 3 Hindu men had disguised themselves as Muslims and pretended to offer namaz. The 4 persons have been apprehended and sent to judicial custody. Their names are as follows-

Saroj Nath Yogi.
Krishna Kumar Pathak
Gaurav Goswami
Arshad Ali.

Foolproof: The viral claim is false. A report in The Hindu published on July 19 quoted the Lucknow Police denying media reports that the 8 persons caught on camera offering namaz in Lulu Mall on July 12 were non-Muslims. The tweet by the Lucknow Police Commissionerate cleared the air. He stated that the arrested people were identified as Mohd Rehan of Lucknow, Atif Khan, Mohd Lokman Ali, and Mohd Noman Ali. DK Thakur, Lucknow Commissioner of Police, said four men visited the mall on July 12 with a minor and three women and offered namaz on the mall premises.

Amid the heavy rainfall reported across states, over 100 people died in Maharashtra and more than 90 in Gujarat due to landslides and floods. The main rivers of Palghar in Maharashtra, Tansa and Vaitarna, flow above the danger mark. About 20000 people have been rescued and taken to a safe place. As per The Times of India report dated July 13, 2022, a bridge collapsed, and a landslide occurred on the highway cutting off access from Nashik district to Surgana taluka, Gujarat. Consequently, Gujarat’s road connectivity with Maharashtra’s Nashik is affected.

Fake news: A landslide video is going viral on social media. Many media outlets shared the video claiming that the viral video was from the recent landslide in Nashik, Maharashtra.

Foolproof: The viral claim is false. A user named Devodatta on June 20, 2022. Her tweet indicates that the viral video is of a landslide in Mizoram on the way to Silchar. The video is old and unrelated to the recent Saputara Landslide.
