The Indian Government has started the e-Shram yojana to offer social security to workers in unorganised sectors and has introduced the e-Shram portal for such workers. The objective of this initiative (e-Shram portal) is to collect the information of unorganised workers to provide them with the benefits of multiple government schemes.

It is very important for people working in an unorganised sector to apply for a Shramik card or e-Shram card as they (labourers and workers working in the unorganised sectors) can get several benefits, like financial aid in case of incapacity, a pension after 60 years, death insurance, etc.

The aim of the e-Shram card is to offer access for unorganised workers to all the new schemes and facilities of the government using the e-Shram portal.

It has been reported that approximately 11 crore Indian citizens have successfully enrolled with the e-Shramik Portal. The ones who are still waiting for the registration procedure face a significant time constraint. Those who have enrolled already are undergoing the document verification procedure which will also add benefits from the initiative.
